Aventura, Miami-Dade

An auto locksmith that works where Aventura parks: garages, driveways and building lots

4Keys Locksmith, a NASTF VSP authorized and ALOA certified mobile locksmith that is insured and bonded, works around the clock in Aventura, FL under Qorinca LLC's Miami-Dade County locksmith license LK-094576. There is no shop: the van carries the key cutter, the programming tools and the fob stock to the car, so nothing has to be towed, and it typically arrives 15 to 30 minutes after the call; the dispatcher gives you the time.

Push-button cars with proximity keys have a failure all their own: a fob that the car stops seeing. This page explains it first, step by step and make by make, from the blade hidden in the fob to the backup start position, and then what it means when the car still refuses. After that come the rest of the car work, and the locks on condos, houses and offices.

Each job gets its price over the phone before any technician heads out, with published rates on 4Keys pricing. The call is answered in English and Spanish.

Dead Fob, At the Car

Fob dead, car locked: four things to try before anyone drives over

These come from the owner's manuals of the makers named. If none of them works, the next section explains why, and that is when to call.

  1. 1

Take the emergency blade out of the fob

A proximity fob hides a metal key. Nissan says its Intelligent Key contains the mechanical key, released with a lock knob; Mercedes-Benz releases it from the SmartKey with a catch; on Toyota and Lexus fobs a catch slides aside and the blade pulls out with the key ring.

  2. 2

Find the keyhole on the driver door

On some cars the cylinder is in plain view behind the driver door handle. On many others it sits under a cover: the tip of the blade goes into the small slot at the base of that cover to lift it off and expose the lock. Turn the blade to unlock and open the door.

  3. 3

    Use the backup start position

The chip inside the fob needs no battery when it is held right against the reader the maker provides, at the start button, on the steering column or in a slot. Where that reader is, by make, is in the table below.

  4. 4

Swap the coin cell, then try the remote again

The cell size, such as CR2032 or CR2025, is stamped on the old cell. Put the new one in with the same side up and check that the contact spring still presses on it. A fob that stays dead after a fresh cell points to the fob or the car, not the battery.

Backup Start, By Make

Where each maker hides the backup reader: starting with a dead fob

As each owner's manual words it. Trims and years differ, so check your own manual too; the dispatcher can walk you through it on the call.

Push-to-Start, In Depth

Push-to-start that does not see the fob: battery, interference, pairing, or the car itself

A proximity key does two separate jobs. Its radio side, powered by the coin cell, tells the car the key is nearby so the doors unlock and the start button works; this is the passive entry, passive start system, PEPS. Its transponder chip, the immobilizer side, needs no battery: a coil in the backup reader powers it at very short range. That is why the backup position in the table above starts a car whose fob is dead, and why it makes such a clean test.

If the backup start works, the fault is power. Replace the cell, and if the remote still does nothing, check three things: the cell in upside down, a CR2025 where a CR2032 belongs, or a contact spring bent away from the cell. A car that later forgets the remote after a new cell is a pairing problem, not a battery one.

If the backup start fails as well, interference comes next. Nissan's bulletin on keys not detected names RF interference, with RFID tokens, several keys on one ring, a weak fob battery, RFID-blocking pouches, phones and chargers as contributors, and its owner manual warns that a second registered key or a toll transponder on the same ring can block the start. Move everything else away from the key and try again. BMW documents a different case on 5 Series cars built from March 2018: static discharge can put the key into a deep sleep, and pressing any button on it, or taking the cell out and refitting it, wakes it up.

When the key is fine, the car can be the cause. On the 2014 Jeep Grand Cherokee, Jeep's bulletin ties a "Key Not Detected" message to the RF hub module, cured by reprogramming it, and BMW traced a 3 Series whose Comfort Start failed while the car still started at the emergency spot to an interior antenna wire shorting against a metal bracket. The module side of that work is done at the car with dealer-level software under NASTF VSP; see module programming. If both fobs quit on the same day, suspect the car side first: the receiver, the BCM, a fuse or an aftermarket alarm.

And sometimes it is the fob. A fob that is physically sound but no longer paired is re-registered to the car. A wet or cracked fob is replaced with a new one, and a fob that keeps dropping out gets swapped for a brand-new one carrying the 4Keys warranty, the case set out in the deprogrammed or broken fob guide and on the Miramar page. On a Nissan, registering one Intelligent Key erases the others, so every key you want to keep has to be at the car, up to four. A fob you already purchased online can be used when its FCC ID, frequency and part number match, as the Kendall page explains. Service: smart key fob programming.

Auto Locksmith Service

The rest of the car work, for every make that parks in Aventura

American, German, Japanese, Korean, British and Italian cars, at the curb, in a driveway or on any garage level.

Locked out

Doors are worked open with non-destructive entry tools, an air wedge and a long reach tool or a Lishi decoder, depending on the car. See car lockout service and keys locked inside the car.

Keys in the trunk

When the fob is in the trunk of a locked car, the cabin is opened first and the trunk released from inside where the car has a release. See trunk lockout.

A spare made in time

One working key is the best moment to add another: it is cut and programmed while the car still knows the first. See spare keys at the car.

No key left

The blade is cut by code from the VIN key code and a new chip or smart key is programmed to the immobilizer. The dispatcher checks the model year on the call and confirms the route before the van leaves. See all keys lost and lost car key service.

Ignition cylinder

On cars with a turn key, a key that will not turn or spins freely is traced to the key, the wafers or the link behind the cylinder. See ignition repair and key spins in the ignition.

Broken blade

An emergency blade or a turn key that snaps in a door or an ignition is extracted, and a new one is cut from the bitting on the half you kept. See broken key extraction.

Modules after a repair

A shop that swaps a body control module, an engine computer or an RF hub leaves a car that will not accept its keys until the new part is programmed. Name the replaced part when you call. See ECU and module programming.

European smart keys

BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volkswagen keys are programmed by immobilizer generation, explained on the Bay Harbor Islands page and on luxury key programming.

Company vehicles

Fleet cars, vans and pickups get spares and fobs in one visit at the lot. See fleet and van key programming.
Condos, Houses, Offices

The locks at home and at work: condo units, houses and office suites

A condo or house lockout is opened by picking the lock first, whether it is a lever set, a deadbolt or a keypad whose batteries went flat. A key that is gone for good is dealt with on that visit by repinning the cylinder, so whoever finds it cannot use it; the front door, the back door and the storage room can all be set to open with a single key. In a building that runs a master key system, check with management before the unit cylinder is changed.

Worn locks are replaced with hardware that fits the holes already in the door, deadbolts are added where a door has only a knob, and keypad or app deadbolts are installed with their codes set. Restricted-keyway cylinders keep copies under control on any door that needs it. More on residential locksmith service, and night calls on emergency locksmith service.

Medical and professional offices get the business side. After a staff change, every cylinder the departing key opened is rekeyed. A master key system gives each manager the doors they need and one key to the owner, cut on restricted blanks. Card and fob readers let a credential be switched off on the day someone leaves, exit devices let people out with one push while keeping the door locked from outside, and the hook-bolt locks on glass entry doors are repaired or repinned. A business lockout after hours is answered at any time. See commercial locksmith service.

Service Area

Getting to the car in Aventura: roads, garages and gates

4Keys Locksmith serves Aventura in ZIP codes 33180 and 33160, Miami-Dade County. Give the address and, for a car, exactly where it is parked: the street, the garage name or the lot.

Biscayne Boulevard (US 1) is the spine for the van. The William Lehman Causeway (State Road 856) leaves it at NE 192nd Street and crosses the Intracoastal to Collins Avenue in Sunny Isles Beach, with NE 192nd Street looping under it from Country Club Drive. Ives Dairy Road (NE 203rd Street) runs east from the I-95 Ives Dairy Road exit to Biscayne Boulevard. A car stopped on any of these is reached faster with the nearest cross street and the direction of travel.

A car in a condo garage or a valet garage is worked on in its space: give the level, the space and tell the attendant a locksmith is on the way. In a large retail or hospital parking structure, say the garage, the level and the row. A gated community with a guardhouse needs the visitor name at the gate. The same dispatch covers Sunny Isles Beach across the causeway, North Miami Beach to the south, and Hallandale Beach to the north.

FAQ - Aventura Locksmith Questions, Answered in Full

A dead fob and a car that will not start, getting into the car, a new cell that changed nothing, key not detected, dealer or locksmith, both fobs at once, a child in the car, price at night, and valet garages.

In many push-button cars, yes. The chip inside the fob needs no battery when it is held at the backup reader: touching the start button with the fob on Toyota, Honda, Hyundai and Jeep, touching the ignition switch on Nissan, the backup slot on Ford, the marked spot on the steering column on BMW. If the car starts that way, replace the coin cell. If it does not, call: the key or the car side has a fault that 4Keys Locksmith diagnoses at the car in Aventura.
Take the emergency blade out of the fob with its release catch or knob, then find the keyhole on the driver door handle. If you do not see one, it is under a cover: the tip of the blade lifts the cover at the small slot at its base. If the blade is missing or the lock will not turn, call and the door is opened with non-destructive entry tools.
Check the cell orientation, the size stamped on it against the one you removed, and the contact spring. If all three are right and the remote still does nothing, the fob may have lost its pairing, which is fixed by re-registering it, or it may have failed, in which case a new fob is programmed in its place under the 4Keys warranty.
Move phones, chargers, other keys, toll tags and RFID pouches away from the fob and try again; manufacturers document all of these as interference. Then try the backup start position. If the car still refuses, the problem can be the fob, an antenna or a module such as an RF hub, and the technician tests each at the car.
A locksmith with dealer-level software can. 4Keys Locksmith programs proximity keys at the car under its NASTF VSP authorization, including a fob you bought online once its FCC ID, frequency and part number match. On a Nissan, bring every key you want to keep, since registration redoes all of them together.
Two fobs failing at once points away from the fobs: the receiver that hears them, the body control module, a blown fuse or an aftermarket alarm are the places to look. Say so on the call, because it changes what the technician brings.
Call 911 first, whatever the temperature. Once the child or the animal is out and safe, call 4Keys for the key and the car.
The dispatcher quotes the job on the phone before a technician is sent, based on the key type, the programming route and the hour. An after-hours surcharge applies between 9 PM and 7 AM local time, and on Sundays and federal holidays, and it is part of the price you hear on that call.
Yes. Give the garage, the level and the space, and tell the attendant or the front desk that a locksmith is coming. The work is done with the car in its space, so it does not have to be brought out.
