What changes when a locksmith holds NASTF VSP

A modern car key is two jobs: a blade cut to the vehicle's code, and a transponder or smart key that the immobilizer has to accept. On more and more cars, the automaker decides who may do the second job, and asks for proof of who is asking before it releases a code, a PIN or a key file.

Aftermarket tools like Autel, Xhorse, and Smart Pro handle a great many vehicles and basic transponder work well. Where a manufacturer keeps its security data behind its own portal, the tool alone is not enough: the code, the PIN or the pre-programmed key has to come from that manufacturer, and the manufacturer checks for a NASTF VSP credential first.

NASTF, the National Automotive Service Task Force, issues that credential; the data itself comes from each automaker. A PIN bought per VIN from the Stellantis portal, sold to VSP credential holders only and good for 12 hours, on 2014-and-newer vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz

Can a locksmith make a car key without the original key?

Yes, when the locksmith is allowed to reach the key code. NASTF VSP is what lets 4Keys Locksmith request that code by VIN through NASTF, by a technician with an active VSP credential, so the blade is cut by code and a virgin transponder is programmed to the immobilizer on site, with no working key to copy.

Can a locksmith program a key without the dealer?

On a modern car the key is enrolled through the manufacturer's security software, the class of tool a dealer runs (Ford FDRS or Toyota Techstream, for example). 4Keys Locksmith works with dealer-level software under NASTF VSP in Miami-Dade and Metro Atlanta. How that access works.

Can you program a key fob I bought online?

If the part is compatible: matching FCC ID, frequency and transponder type. A fob bought online still has to be registered to your immobilizer; that registration is done at the car with the programming software, and we check the part number on the phone first. Before you order one.
