NASTF VSP · ALOA · Publicly Verifiable

Locksmith Certifications & Credentials

Most U.S. states do not regulate the locksmith profession federally. Certifications are how customers tell trained professionals from anyone with a key cutter. We hold both NASTF Vehicle Security Professional (VSP) authorization for legal OEM car key programming, and ALOA certifications for general locksmith technical skills. Both are publicly verifiable.

Why Credentials Matter

The U.S. locksmith profession is mostly unregulated

Only 15 U.S. states require a state locksmith license. The other 35, including Georgia, allow anyone to operate as a locksmith with no background check, no training requirement, and no oversight. Florida is one of the regulated states (we hold License #LK-094576 through Qorinca LLC), but even there, the state license does not test car key programming, access control, or master keying skills.

That regulatory gap is why federal certifications exist. NASTF Vehicle Security Professional (VSP) was created in 2008 as the federally-recognized U.S. credential for legal access to manufacturer car key security data. ALOA (Associated Locksmiths of America) has been the industry association since 1956 and offers technical certifications graded by skill area.

We hold both. Below are the specific credentials, what each covers, and how to verify them publicly through the issuing organization.

Most U.S. states do not federally regulate the locksmith profession, which means anyone with a key cutter can operate. Certifications fill that gap. NASTF VSP is the only federally-recognized U.S. credential for legal OEM car key data access. ALOA is the industry association certification for technical skills. Together, they signal that the locksmith was trained, vetted, and operates under verifiable standards.
Yes. Our automotive technicians hold active NASTF Vehicle Security Professional (VSP) authorization, which we renew annually. Our team holds ALOA certifications in EEPROM Essentials, Automotive ECU, and Access Control 101. Plus standard CEU hours through ALOA's continuing education program.
Ask for the VSP authorization number, then verify at vettedcarkeypros.com (the official NASTF lookup portal). The business name must match the credential. If the locksmith hedges, refuses, or the number does not match, walk away.
ALOA maintains a public member directory at aloa.org/member-directory. Search by name or company. Active members are listed with their certifications and continuing education status.
For car key work on European luxury brands (Mercedes, BMW, Range Rover, Audi, Porsche, Bentley, Rolls-Royce), NASTF VSP is legally required to access the OEM security data. For general locksmith work (residential rekey, commercial master keying, lockouts), ALOA certification is the strongest signal of technical competence. We hold both.
No. A state license authorizes you to operate as a locksmith in that state. NASTF VSP is a federal-level credential for OEM vehicle security data access. A locksmith should hold both: state license to operate legally, plus NASTF VSP for car key programming on modern vehicles.
Florida: License #LK-094576 issued to Qorinca LLC by Florida DBPR. Georgia: Georgia does not require a state locksmith license, so our Georgia operations run as 4Keys Locksmith LLC, registered with the Georgia Secretary of State, fully insured and bonded.
Three possible outcomes, all bad. The job fails outright (immobilizer rejects the key). The locksmith damages the immobilizer module attempting a bypass ($1,500 to $4,000 to replace). Or the locksmith uses gray-market cloning tools that work but void manufacturer warranty and may be flagged at the next dealer service visit.
