Who comes out to Bay Harbor Islands, and what the van brings with it

4Keys Locksmith is a mobile, 24/7 locksmith in Bay Harbor Islands, FL that is NASTF VSP authorized, ALOA certified, insured and bonded, operated by Qorinca LLC, which was issued Miami-Dade County locksmith license LK-094576. There is no storefront to drive to: the key machine, the programming equipment and the lock stock travel in the van (see how a mobile locksmith operates), and the dispatcher tells you on the call when it will reach the islands, typically 15 to 30 minutes.

One subject gets the long treatment on this page: keys for German cars. BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volkswagen protect the engine with an immobilizer, and the generation of that system decides how a new key is made. It is explained make by make below, with the dealer-level software a locksmith reaches under NASTF VSP. The same van handles American, Japanese, Korean, British and Italian makes, and every lock on a home or a business.

You hear the price on the phone before a technician is dispatched, and the published rates sit on the 4Keys pricing page. Calls are taken in English and Spanish.

European Car Keys, In Depth

BMW, Mercedes-Benz, Audi and Volkswagen keys: the immobilizer generation sets the route

A key for a German car carries two things in one shell: a blade cut to the locks and an electronic identity the car has to accept before the engine runs. Each of these makers has replaced that identity system several times, so what a technician needs first is not the model name but the generation of the security module in your car. 4Keys Locksmith reads it from the VIN and the year on the first call, under its NASTF VSP authorization, the credential manufacturers check before they release key and immobilizer data.

BMW went through four families. The E46 3 Series used EWS, with a remote-head key on an HU92 blade and a Philips ID44 chip. The E90 3 Series (North American model years 2006 to 2012) and the E60 5 Series moved to CAS, the Car Access System, a slot key working with an electric steering lock; on the encrypted CAS3+ versions the engine computer also checks the key, so adding one calls for a working key or the ISN stored in that computer. The F10 5 Series and F25 X3 run CAS4 with a Hitag Pro (ID49) chip, the F30 3 Series and the F22, F32 and F87 keep key data in the FEM, the Front Electronic Module, and the G30 5 Series and F39 X2 use the BDC, the Body Domain Controller. One BMW bulletin matters before a key is added to a G30: on cars built from July 1, 2015 to April 30, 2018 with older factory software, teaching in one new remote can switch off Comfort Access and Passive Go, and BMW's remedy is a full new key set with a new BDC. That is why the dispatcher asks for the build date printed on the driver's door jamb.

Mercedes-Benz calls its immobilizer the Drive Authorization System, DAS (FBS in German). Under DAS3 the SmartKey slides into an electronic ignition switch with no mechanical tumblers, so a W204 C-Class (2008 to 2014) treats its key as a small computer rather than a cut blade, and when every key is gone the ignition switch module can have to come out to be read. DAS4 arrived on the W205 C-Class and, per a Mercedes-Benz USA bulletin, on the 2013 ML (W166) with option code 803 and the 2014 E-Class (W212) with code 804, so the code on the data card decides, not the badge. A DAS4 key is built by Mercedes for one VIN: NASTF lets an authorized Vehicle Security Professional order it pre-programmed through a Mercedes-Benz dealer once the car is registered as present and ownership is verified, and Mercedes allows eight keys per car in total.

Audi and Volkswagen work through a server. Immobilizer adaptation takes a PIN that the factory tester pulls online from the FAZIT database and passes to the car over a secure link, and the two brands open that access to professionals registered in the NASTF VSP registry; a vehicle reported stolen gets no adaptation. Ross-Tech places Immobilizer 3 on many 2002 and newer North American models, PIN required, and the 1K Golf and Jetta on Immobilizer 4, which takes up to eight keys that must be new or already adapted to that car. On the MLB Audis (A4, A5, first-generation Q5, A6, A7, A8) the immobilizer lives in the BCM2 module, matched online with GeKo access at a dealer or through a J2534 pass-thru, and the second-generation Q5 and the newer Q7 moved to MLB Evo, where Audi's 2023 bulletin shows key adaptation running inside an online test plan.

Blades follow their own families: HU92 inserts on the older BMW slot keys, HU100R on 2014-on 3 and 5 Series inserts, HU64 in Mercedes DAS3 SmartKeys, HU66 in the earlier Audi and Volkswagen keys and HU162T from 2015 on. Whatever you hold (a working key, a broken one, or nothing), say the year, the model and how many keys still start the car. The dispatcher confirms on that call whether the key is cut and programmed beside the car or ordered by VIN first. Land Rover, Jaguar and other European makes go through the same check; see luxury and European key programming.

The European Key Call

From the first call to a car that starts: five steps for a European key

The same order whether the car is a BMW in a building garage or an Audi in a driveway on West Island.

  1. 1

Read the VIN and the year

The VIN sits at the base of the windshield and on the registration. Together with the year it tells the dispatcher which module guards the engine: EWS, CAS, FEM or BDC on a BMW, DAS3 or DAS4 on a Mercedes-Benz, the immobilizer generation or BCM2 on an Audi or Volkswagen.

  2. 2

Count the keys that still start the car

A working key, a damaged key and no key at all are three different routes. On several generations a working key lends its data to the new one; no key at all is the all keys lost job, quoted above a spare, and the dispatcher confirms the procedure for your model year during that call.

  3. 3

    Ownership check and the price

The manufacturers release security data only against proof of ownership, so the documents required for the case are requested by the dispatcher on the call. The price is given at the same moment, before a technician is dispatched.

  4. 4

Made at the car, or ordered by VIN

Where the generation allows it, the blade is cut by code and the key programmed beside the car. Where the maker builds the key for one VIN, as with a Mercedes-Benz DAS4 key, the order goes in first and the visit is booked for when it arrives.

  5. 5

Every function tried at the car

Engine start, remote lock and unlock, trunk release and, on comfort-access cars, hands-free entry are worth trying with the technician still there. Keys you no longer have can be removed from the car's memory where the system allows it.

Car Locksmith, Every Make

Car locksmith work for every make, not only the German ones

Japanese, Korean, American, British and Italian cars get the same van and the same dealer-level access. What each job involves and what changes it.

Locked out of the car

The door is opened with non-destructive entry tools: a Lishi decoder pick, or an air wedge with a long reach tool. Keys visible on the seat are retrieved once the door opens; keys in the trunk make it a trunk lockout. Details on car lockout service.

A spare while one key still works

With one good key in hand, a second is cut and programmed while the car still recognizes the first, the easiest moment to do it on any make. See spare keys made at the car.

No key left at all

The blade is cut by code from the key code tied to the VIN, then a new chip or fob is programmed to the immobilizer, and keys that went missing are erased where the system permits. Your model year is confirmed by the dispatcher on the phone. Read what happens when every key is lost and lost car key service.

Fobs and smart keys

Remote-head keys, flip keys and proximity fobs get programmed beside the car. A fob you purchased online is programmed once its FCC ID, frequency and part number match (how that check works); a fob that lost its pairing is re-registered, and one that keeps failing is replaced with a new fob under the 4Keys warranty (deprogrammed or broken fobs). A smart key with a flat battery is covered on the Aventura page. Service: smart key fob programming.

Ignition that sticks or spins

A key that binds, will not turn or turns with no resistance is checked at both the cylinder and the key, since a worn blade and worn wafers are different repairs. See ignition repair and a key that will not turn.

Snapped key in a lock

The broken piece comes out of the ignition or the door with extraction picks, and the half you kept still carries the bitting for a new blade. See broken key extraction and a key snapped off in the ignition.

Replaced control modules

A new BCM, engine computer or immobilizer module has to be paired with the car and its keys before the engine runs; on European cars that includes the FEM, the BDC and the electronic ignition switch. Tell the dispatcher which part was changed. See ECU and module programming.

Company cars and work vans

Vans, pickups and company sedans are keyed one after another where they park, with spares made before the last key goes missing. See fleet and van key programming.
Homes and Businesses

West Island houses, East Island buildings: the locks behind each door

A house lockout starts with the lock itself: knob, lever, deadbolt, or a keypad lock whose batteries ran out. Non-destructive entry comes first, and drilling is the fallback only when the lock leaves no other way in. When the key is gone for good, the lock is rekeyed in the same visit: new pins in the cylinder, new keys in your hand, the old key useless. Several exterior doors can be keyed alike so one key runs all of them. Night calls go through emergency locksmith service.

A worn or damaged lock is replaced with hardware that fits the existing door preparation, and a door that has only a knob can get a deadbolt bored in with its strike. Keypad and app deadbolts are installed and their codes set, in the existing hole where the model allows. For doors that need key control, high-security cylinders with restricted keyways keep copies out of hardware-store machines. More on residential locksmith service.

In the apartment and condo buildings on East Island, a unit cylinder can be part of a building master key system that management keeps on a key chart, so check with management before the unit is rekeyed. How those systems are rekeyed is covered on the Edgewater page.

For the offices and shops along Kane Concourse, the job list is short and specific. When an employee leaves with a key, each lock that key could open gets new pins. A master key system gives the owner one key for all doors and staff keys for their own, with restricted blanks against copies. Card and fob readers replace metal keys on staff doors, and a credential is shut off the day someone leaves. Push bars and exit devices are installed or repaired so a door opens from inside with one push and stays locked from outside, and aluminum storefront doors get their narrow-stile deadlocks and mortise cylinders serviced. See commercial locksmith service and the master key system setup guide.

A business lockout after closing is answered at any hour, and a lost office key can be retired with a rekey on that same visit.

Where the Van Goes

Reaching both islands: the causeway, the concourse and the buildings between

4Keys Locksmith covers all of ZIP code 33154 in Bay Harbor Islands, a town of two islands in Miami-Dade County. West Island is single-family houses, and East Island holds the apartment and condo buildings and the business district along Kane Concourse. Give the dispatcher the street address and the island, and for a car, where it is parked.

The van arrives on State Road 922. From the mainland it runs as NE 123rd Street through North Miami, crosses the Broad Causeway (a toll bridge) to the islands, becomes Kane Concourse, and meets 96th Street on the line between Surfside and Bal Harbour before ending at Collins Avenue (SR A1A). If the car is stopped on the causeway or the concourse, say which direction you were driving and the nearest cross street.

At a building with a locked lobby or an intercom, give the entry code on the call or meet the technician at the door. For a car in the garage under a building, give the level and the space; the key is programmed where the car sits. At a West Island house with a driveway gate, say whether it opens for the van. The same dispatch serves Bal Harbour and Surfside across 96th Street and North Miami on the other side of the causeway.

FAQ - Bay Harbor Islands Locksmith Questions

BMW, Mercedes, Audi and Volkswagen keys, a lost key with no spare, reused keys, price and night hours, building access, and who stands behind the service.

A locksmith with the right access can. 4Keys Locksmith programs BMW keys at the car in Bay Harbor Islands across the EWS, CAS, CAS4, FEM and BDC generations, under its NASTF VSP authorization. The dispatcher identifies the module from your VIN and year first. On a G30 5 Series built between July 2015 and April 2018, the build date is checked before a key is added, because BMW documents a case where one new remote disables Comfort Access.
It depends on the DAS generation. On a DAS3 car such as a W204 C-Class, a new SmartKey is programmed to the car, and with every key gone the electronic ignition switch can have to be read. On a DAS4 car, Mercedes builds the key for your VIN: a NASTF Vehicle Security Professional orders it pre-programmed through a Mercedes-Benz dealer after the car is registered as present and ownership is verified. The dispatcher tells you which applies to your car on the first call.
Yes. Audi and Volkswagen deliver the immobilizer PIN online through the FAZIT database to professionals registered in the NASTF VSP registry, and the adaptation is done at the car. On the MLB Audis, where the immobilizer sits in the BCM2 module, matching runs online with GeKo access through a J2534 pass-thru. Have the VIN and the number of working keys ready when you call.
On a Volkswagen with Immobilizer 4, keys must be new or already adapted to that same car, and the system holds up to eight. A Mercedes-Benz DAS4 key is built for one VIN and is ordered for your car. If you bought a key online, read its part number to the dispatcher before the visit so the right route is chosen.
The dispatcher quotes the job on the phone before a technician is dispatched, based on the key system, the programming route and the hour. An after-hours surcharge applies between 9 PM and 7 AM local time, and on Sundays and federal holidays, and it is part of the quote you hear on that call. The published rates are on the 4Keys pricing page.
Yes. Give the entry code or meet the technician at the lobby or garage gate, and say the level and space. The key is cut and programmed beside the car, so it does not have to be moved.
Call and say the car is running, the make and where it is parked; the door is opened with non-destructive entry tools. If a child or a pet is inside, call 911 first, then call 4Keys once they are safe.
Qorinca LLC, operating as 4Keys Locksmith, was issued Miami-Dade County locksmith license LK-094576. The company is NASTF VSP authorized, ALOA certified, insured and bonded, and answers calls in English and Spanish.
