Austell Locksmith, Open 24/7: Car Keys, Push-Button Fobs and House Locks

When the dash says no key is detected, the last key is gone, or the front door will not open, a technician drives to you in Austell with a key cutter, a programmer and door hardware on board, and you agree the price by phone before it leaves.

An Austell locksmith for push-button cars, front doors and shop locks

For Austell, GA, 4Keys Locksmith runs a mobile locksmith service day and night that is listed in the NASTF VSP registry for dealer-level key work, ALOA-trained, insured by The Hartford, and filed as 4Keys Locksmith LLC with the Georgia Secretary of State. Instead of a service desk, the van leaving Brookhaven carries the key cutter, blanks, fobs, programming equipment and door hardware, and it drives to your Austell address; that is the whole idea of a locksmith who comes to you.

This page spends the most time on one problem that belongs to push-button cars: the fob is in your pocket or your hand, and the dash still says the key cannot be found. The causes, the checks you can do from the driver's seat and the point where a new fob makes sense come first, followed by the rest of the car, home and business work.

You hear the price by phone ahead of dispatch, and the rate sheet is public on 4Keys pricing. You can explain the problem in English or in Spanish; the Spanish page for the metro is Cerrajero en Atlanta.

Key Not Detected

"Key not detected" on a push-button car: the battery, interference, the car's receiver, or the fob itself

A push-button car does not wait for you to press anything on the fob. When you pull a handle or press the start button, the vehicle sends a short low-frequency call through its passive entry antennas, and the fob answers on its own radio band, 315 or 434 MHz depending on the part. The engine is released only when a registered fob answers from inside the cabin. The manufacturers' bulletins name that low-frequency side and those antennas when they describe the fault, and a "key not detected" message means the exchange broke at one of four points, each with its own fix.

The first point is the fob's coin cell, which powers the reply. A weakening cell shortens the range before it stops the answer altogether, and both Nissan and Jaguar Land Rover list a low fob battery among the causes of an undetected key. A car that starts only when the fob is held against the start button or placed in its backup spot points to the cell, because that close position works through the passive transponder rather than the battery; the backup routine and the cell change are laid out on the Alpharetta page, and the wider fob checklist is at key fob not working.

The second is interference. Nissan bulletin NTB13-107G blames radio interference for keys its cars fail to detect and lists RFID tags and tokens, a crowded key ring, bags that block RFID, and phones and chargers nearby. A Chrysler group service case from April 2021 adds aftermarket products such as LED bulbs and wireless equipment, and Jaguar Land Rover wrote up a "Smart Key Not Found" message that appeared with the key sitting in the console cupholder near phones or laptops. The free test: take the fob off the ring, move the phone and the charger away, and try again from the driver's seat.

The third is the car itself. When two fobs that both worked stop being detected on the same day, the fobs are off the hook and the receiver side becomes the suspect: the RF hub module on Jeep and other Chrysler group vehicles, the Remote Function Actuator on a Range Rover. Jeep documented a "Key Not Detected" no-start on the 2014 Grand Cherokee with a module reprogram as the remedy, and Land Rover a lock-up of that actuator on Range Rovers from 2010 to 2015. Those remedies are the manufacturers' own bulletin work, so when the clues point there, the dispatcher tells you so on the call instead of sending a fob that would not help.

The fourth is the fob. A fob that was dropped, crushed or soaked, or whose buttons stay dead with a fresh cell, is replaced by a new fob programmed at the car and covered by the 4Keys warranty. A sound fob that only lost its registration is re-registered instead, and the Powder Springs page explains how the technician tells the two apart. If you already bought a replacement, it can be programmed provided its FCC ID and part number are the ones your car takes; the Ellenwood page covers what to check before you order.

Calling about a push-button car? Five details that shape the quote

Read the dispatcher the exact words on the dash, say whether one fob or both stopped working, and mention if the coin cell was changed recently. Add anything new in the car, such as LED bulbs or wireless gadgets, since the Chrysler group case above tells technicians to suspect exactly that kind of add-on; unplugging it and trying again is a fair test before you call. Then give the year, make and model and where the car is sitting. Those answers tell the dispatcher whether you need a new fob, a re-registration or a manufacturer bulletin, and the quote is built on them. Calls between 9 PM and 7 AM local time, and on Sundays and federal holidays carry an after-hours surcharge, already inside the price you are given.

Auto Locksmith, Austell

Every car key job, done beside the car in Austell

Chevrolet, Ford, Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Jeep, Dodge and Ram come first on this list, and German, British and Italian models are programmed with the same dealer-level access.

Keys locked in the car

Where the keys are, on the seat, hanging from the ignition or shut in the trunk, decides the approach, and the entry stays non-destructive with tools like a Lishi pick for the door lock or a wedge and long-reach rod. The trunk case is its own trunk lockout job; general service: car lockout.

A second key while one works

The simplest key job there is: the working key gives the blade its cuts and the car already accepts a key, so the new one is cut and paired in a single visit. Service: car key duplication.

Every key lost

The blade is cut by code, using the key code the manufacturer holds for your VIN, the immobilizer is taught a brand-new transponder or smart key, and wherever the system supports it, the lost keys are wiped from the car. Say what the car is, year first, and the route is agreed on the call. Details: lost car key replacement.

Smart keys and remotes

Proximity fobs, flip keys and remote-head keys are paired beside the car, including one you bought online if the part matches. One that has failed before is not patched again: it is replaced with a new fob that carries the 4Keys warranty (see why a fob loses its programming). Service page: smart key fob programming.

Ignition trouble

On a turn-key car, a key that binds, stops halfway or spins without resistance can come from worn wafers inside the cylinder, a blade rounded off by years of use, or a broken actuator pin, and trying the spare key sorts them fastest. Read when the key spins or book ignition repair.

A key snapped in the lock

Extraction picks lift the stub out of the ignition or the door cylinder. Laid side by side, the two halves still show every cut, so a new blade can be made from them. See a key broken in the ignition.

Module replaced

Swap in a body computer, an immobilizer box or an engine control unit and it must be paired with the car and its keys; say which part went in and whether it is new or used. The pairing happens at the vehicle through dealer-level software, reached with NASTF VSP authorization. Service: module programming.

Vans and company vehicles

Company pickups and cargo vans are handled in a row where they park; have the VIN list ready, and when the title is in a company name the dispatcher confirms on the call which company papers are needed. How spares and key control work for a fleet: Lithia Springs and fleet and van key programming.

Push-button car that will not start

If the checks above do not bring the fob back, the technician tests the fob, the cell and the car's response at the vehicle before anything is sold, then programs a new fob or points you to the bulletin route. The transponder side of the story is on the Brookhaven page.
Austell House Doors

Austell houses: getting in, and deciding who else can

Door work at the house, day or night, quoted before the van leaves.

Locked out of the house

Entry begins on your existing knob or deadbolt, non-destructively. If the key is truly lost and not just sitting inside, ask for a rekey before the technician packs up, so the missing key stops working. Night calls: emergency locksmith service.

Rekey or a new lock

A rekey changes the pin stack inside the cylinder and every old key goes dead; a lock change swaps the hardware. Which one fits your door, and what happens inside the cylinder, is explained on the Mableton page. General service: residential locksmith service.

A deadbolt for a door that only has a knob

The deadbolt goes in above the knob, with a strike set into the frame to receive it. What changes the job is the door itself: one that already has the hole takes the new bolt directly, one that was never drilled is bored first. Tell the dispatcher which it is and what the door is made of. The boring and the strike are covered on the Jonesboro page.

Keypad and app locks

A keypad or app-controlled deadbolt mounts in the same door preparation as a keyed one, and the codes are set with you at the door. If you bought the lock yourself, keep its box and guide together for the visit, and decide whether you want a model with a backup key. Fit, codes and batteries are explained on the Snellville page.

High-security cylinders

A cylinder on a restricted keyway takes keys issued through the lock maker's authorized channel, not a store counter, which suits the door where you want to know how many keys exist. Say which door it is for and how many keys you need with it. How restricted keys work: Old Fourth Ward.

Key broken off in the front door

Leave the stub where it is and call: the piece is extracted, and the cylinder is rekeyed or replaced depending on its condition. The methods and the point where a cylinder has to go are on the Lilburn page.
Shops, Offices, Warehouses

Business doors in Austell: keys, readers and exits

Offices, shops and warehouses, worked around your hours when the door is one customers use.

Staff turnover rekey

The cylinders a former employee could open are repinned, and new keys are handed out only to the people who need them. Have that door list ready when you call; more on commercial locksmith service.

Master key systems

Different keys for different people, one key for the owner, all mapped on a key chart. The work starts from the doors and the people, so a sketch of the building with each door named saves time on the call. Planning guidance: master key system setup; building-wide design: Dunwoody.

Keypads and card readers

Staff doors opened by code, card or fob, with a lost credential deleted instead of a cylinder rekeyed. Say how many people need a credential and whether there is power near the door, since a wired reader needs it. How credentials are added, removed and logged: Duluth.

Panic bars

Exit devices fitted new or repaired when they stop catching, plus keyed outside trim where staff come in that way. Measure the door’s width if you can, because bars come in set lengths. How they fail and why: Tucker.

Storefront and office locks

Aluminum storefront doors with narrow-stile mortise cylinders, office doors with commercial levers, and a commercial lock change when the hardware is worn out. Say which doors share a key today, so a new cylinder can be keyed to match.

After-hours entry

A manager shut out of the building is let back in, day or night, and when a key has gone missing, the affected cylinders can be repinned on the same trip. The Georgia overview: commercial locksmith in Georgia.
Where We Work

Austell addresses and roads, so the technician finds you fast

4Keys Locksmith covers both Austell ZIP codes, 30106 and 30168, inside the small city and across the unincorporated addresses that share its mail. A sliver of the city reaches into Douglas County, and it is covered the same way. Read the street address from your mail or a bill.

Veterans Memorial Highway (US-78) runs through Austell and crosses Sweetwater Creek before heading east into Mableton, while Austell Road (SR-5) leaves it northbound toward Marietta. Austell has no I-20 interchange of its own: it sits about four miles north of the interstate, and exit 44 at Thornton Road, which lies in Lithia Springs, is the one signed for it. On a long road like Austell Road, name the nearest cross street or the business you are parked at. A car in the lots at Wellstar Cobb Medical Center, 3950 Austell Road, is reached in its space: give the lot and the row.

The property changes the visit. A house brings the lockout, rekey and deadbolt work; a gated apartment community means reading out the gate code or walking down to let the van in; a shop or office means heavier cylinders, push bars and card readers; a company lot with several vans is keyed vehicle by vehicle. The same dispatch works Powder Springs next door.

FAQ - Austell Questions, Answered Plainly

Undetected fobs, two fobs failing together, starting only at the button, a fresh battery that changed nothing, water-damaged fobs, hospital parking, the Douglas County side, ownership papers and a key broken in a house lock.

Start with what costs nothing. Take the fob off the ring so it is alone, move phones, chargers and any RFID card or toll tag away, and try again from the driver's seat. If the car then starts, the problem was interference. If it still refuses, hold the fob against the start button or in the backup spot your owner's manual shows: a start there points to a weak coin cell. If neither works, call and describe exactly what the dash shows.
Probably not. Two fobs rarely fail at the same moment, so a shared failure points to the car's receiving side, such as an RF hub or a similar module, or to something new in the car creating interference. Jeep and Land Rover have both written bulletins about receiver-side faults. Tell the dispatcher the make, model and year, and whether anything was added to the car recently, before any fob is ordered.
Suspect the coin cell first, because the close position works even when the cell is too weak to answer from your pocket. Swap in a fresh cell. If the car still demands the fob at the button with a fresh cell, the fault may be on the car side: Jeep documented exactly that behavior on some 2024 Grand Cherokees, fixed through the manufacturer.
A fob that has been soaked is replaced rather than dried and hoped for. The technician programs a new fob to the car, covered by the 4Keys warranty, and where the system allows it, the soaked fob is removed from the car's memory so it no longer counts as a key.
Call before you book a tow: a key or fob fault is worked on where the car sits, and the technician comes to its space in the lot. Give the lot, the row and the color and model of the car, plus what the dash is showing, so the van brings the right fob in case a new one is needed. If the clues point to a manufacturer bulletin on the car side, the dispatcher tells you during that conversation.
Yes. The technician can work in the shop's lot or bay with the shop's agreement, pairing the replacement module and the keys with dealer-level software. Tell the dispatcher which module was replaced and whether it was new or used, and make sure the owner can be reached, because the ownership check covered below applies at a shop too.
Yes. The small part of the city in Douglas County and every address with an Austell ZIP code, 30106 or 30168, get the same service at any hour. Just give the street address as it appears on your mail.
First confirm the new cell is the same type as the one that came out and that it sits the same way up, then press lock and unlock. If the buttons work but the dash still cannot find the key, the cell was never the problem: clear the key ring, move phones and chargers away and try again, since interference gives the same message. If the buttons stay dead with a fresh cell, the fob itself has failed, and it is replaced by a new fob programmed at the car under the 4Keys warranty.
Two things: the title or the registration of the car, and a photo ID whose name matches that document. They are looked at beside the vehicle before any key or fob is programmed, because a programmed key starts the car. Papers shut in the glovebox? Tell the dispatcher when you phone, and you will hear how that case is handled.
Yes, at any hour. Do not push the broken piece further in. The technician extracts it and then either rekeys the lock so a new key works it or replaces the cylinder if it was damaged, and both options are priced on the call.

Key not detected, lost, or broken off? Call from where the car is.

Tell the dispatcher what the dash says or what the door is doing, the year and model, and where you are in Austell. You agree the price while you are on the phone, and the van sets out from Brookhaven after that.

The price depends on the job and the components it needs; you get the exact total on the phone before the technician is sent. See our reference prices.
