A mobile locksmith for Lilburn houses, cars and businesses

Around the clock, 4Keys Locksmith sends a mobile locksmith to Lilburn, GA; the business is organized as 4Keys Locksmith LLC on the Georgia Secretary of State's records; it is ALOA-trained, insured by The Hartford, and NASTF VSP authorized for dealer-level car key programming. Every job starts with a phone call, and the dispatcher gives the arrival time from Brookhaven to Lilburn on that call.

No shop or counter sits behind the service. The picks, the extractors, the replacement cylinders and the key programming equipment all ride in the van, so the work happens at your door or beside your car. The dispatcher quotes the job before anyone drives over, with the after-hours surcharge counted in for calls between 9 PM and 7 AM local time, and on Sundays and federal holidays, and the rates we publish are on our pricing page. We have Spanish-speaking technicians, so the problem can be explained in English or in Spanish.

Three details make the first call short. Say what is on the door: a knob with a keyhole, a lever, a separate deadbolt, or a keypad. Say what happened to the key: shut inside, lost, bent, or snapped with a piece still in the lock. And say how many doors lead into the house, because a missing key turns an opening into a rekey of each of them.

Lilburn House Doors

House lock work in Lilburn, explained before you book it

What each job involves, what changes it, and what to mention on the call.

Front or back door lockout

Once the technician has confirmed you live there, the lock is opened rather than the door around it. Say which door you are at and what is on it: a knob, a lever, a deadbolt, or a keypad. Night calls: locked out at night.

Key broken in the lock

The fragment comes out with extractor tools, and the replacement key is cut for that same lock. Say whether the door is locked or unlocked and whether a spare works in the other side. The full explanation is below.

Rekeying

The pins in the cylinder are changed so every key already out there stops working; the lock itself is not removed. Useful after a move, a lost key or a roommate leaving. See residential locksmith service.

New deadbolt or lockset

Old hardware comes off and new goes on, and a knob-only door can also gain a deadbolt. A door never drilled for one is bored and fitted with a strike; mention whether the door already has the hole. More on the Georgia residential locksmith page.

Smart deadbolts

A keypad or app-controlled deadbolt is mounted, paired and given its user codes, using the old bore when the new lock's footprint matches. A lock you already bought can be installed, or one can be supplied.

Restricted keyways

High-security cylinders on a restricted keyway keep copies out of hardware store key machines, and extra keys have to be ordered through the channel authorized for that system. Tell the dispatcher which doors and the brand you prefer.
Locked Out, or a Key Snapped Off

Getting into a locked house, or past a key snapped in the door: what the technician does and when the cylinder is replaced

Most house door locks are pin tumbler locks. The key slides into a plug that sits inside a housing; above each cut of the key rests a key pin, and above that a spring-loaded driver pin. Only the right key lifts every pair so the gap between them lands exactly on the shear line, the seam between plug and housing, and only then does the plug turn to throw the bolt or retract the latch. A lockout and a broken key are both problems at that seam, which is why the first move is to work the lock's own parts rather than force the door.

Getting you back in starts with non-destructive entry. Lock picking, opening a lock by moving its pins with a tension wrench and picks instead of a key, is the textbook example and a core skill of the legitimate locksmith trade; the technician chooses among picks and other entry tools according to the lock on your door. When the lock opens this way it keeps working and your keys still fit. If the key went missing instead of being locked in, rekeying the cylinder on that same trip leaves the lost key useless.

A key that snaps leaves part of its blade inside the keyway, and where the plug stopped decides how hard that part comes out. With the plug at rest, the position in which a key slides in and out, the key pins are free to rise and the fragment can be drawn out with a broken-key extractor. If the plug was turned when the key broke, the housing holds those pins down in the cuts of the blade and they grip the piece, so the plug has to be brought back to rest before anything will move. Until the technician arrives, leave the keyway alone: do not push the piece deeper, and do not work at it with a second key. Once the fragment is out, a fresh key is cut to fit that lock, and bringing the broken head along lets the technician read the cuts from both halves.

The cylinder is replaced, not saved, in a few clear cases. If the plug will not turn with a good key once the piece is out, or it turns and the bolt stays put, the cylinder or the parts behind it have been damaged. If a lock cannot be opened by manipulation, 4Keys treats drilling as the last resort; it destroys the cylinder, so a new one is fitted during that visit, and the technician explains why before drilling starts. Which part gets replaced depends on the lock's format: the cylinder inside a knob or lever, the cylinder of a deadbolt, a rim cylinder behind a surface lock, or a threaded mortise cylinder. The replacement goes into the door's existing preparation and can be keyed to match your other doors. A lock that sticks or will not latch for reasons other than a broken key is a repair question, covered on the Norcross page.

Before a house door is opened, the technician confirms that the person asking lives there; the dispatcher explains on the call which papers serve for that. It protects you as much as anyone, since the same check keeps a stranger from being let into your home.

How the Visit Ends

Four ways a house lockout or broken-key call can finish

Which one applies depends on the lock and on what happened to the key. The technician says which before the work changes.

Door opened, lock unchanged

The lock was opened by working its own pins. Your keys still fit, nothing on the door is replaced, and the visit ends when you are inside. Tell the technician if a second lock on that door is also thrown, since each one is opened in turn.

Fragment removed, new key cut

The broken blade comes out of the keyway, the plug is turned to check it still works, and a replacement key is cut for that cylinder. Hand over both halves of the old key if you have them; they help the technician confirm the cuts.

Cylinder rekeyed

When a key is missing rather than broken, or you are not sure who else holds a copy, the pins are changed during the visit so no earlier key turns the lock. The hardware on the door stays the same and new keys are handed over.

Cylinder or lock replaced

A damaged cylinder, one drilled as a last resort, or a lock that has simply worn out is replaced in the same visit, in the same finish where the van carries it. Send a photo of the lock when you call so the right parts are loaded.
Lilburn Car Keys and Fobs

Car keys and fobs, cut and programmed at the curb

Toyota, Honda, Nissan, Hyundai, Kia, Ford, Chevrolet and the other everyday makes first, European and luxury models as well. What each job needs from you.

Keys locked in the car

Car doors are opened with non-destructive entry tools, a long reach tool or an air wedge, whichever suits the car. Tell the dispatcher where the key is and whether the car is running. See the car lockout page and steps while you wait.

New key when the last one is gone

With no working key, a blade is cut to the code recorded for your VIN and a new chip is registered with the immobilizer at the car. On some systems, such as a Toyota with every master key lost, the route runs through the manufacturer's own reset, and which one applies to your year is settled on the phone. More on all keys lost and replacement keys when none are left.

A spare before you need it

While one key still works, a second is cut and programmed from it, the shorter job. Whether the car learns the spare through its own routine or needs a programmer depends on the make and year, and the dispatcher says which on the call. See car key programming; key types by year are on the Toyota and Nissan locksmith pages.

Fobs, smart keys and fobs bought online

Every fob style, from a remote-head or flip key to a push-button proximity fob, is set up beside the car, and that includes a fob purchased online once its part number checks out. A sound fob the car has merely stopped answering is registered to it once more; one that has cut out before or been soaked makes way for a new fob under warranty, a decision the Powder Springs page explains in full.

Ignition trouble

A key that sticks, binds or turns without starting the car can be a worn ignition cylinder, a key worn smooth, or the linkage that turns the ignition switch. The technician checks each before quoting. Guide: when the key spins; the repair itself: ignition repair service.

Key broken in the ignition or car door

The same extraction work as a house lock, on a smaller car cylinder, followed by a new key and, where the car needs it, a programmed chip. See the snapped-key guide and the extraction service.

Modules and security PINs

A replacement engine computer, body control module or immobilizer module may have to be programmed with the keys before the car runs, and some makes ask for a security PIN first, which the Doraville page explains. Say which part was replaced and bring every key. See module programming and the Hyundai page.

Company cars and vans

Several vehicles get keys and fobs in one visit, parked in a row at the lot. Bring the VIN for each vehicle; dispatch asks for the documents that case requires. See fleet key programming; European models go through luxury key programming.
Lilburn Shops and Offices

Business doors in Lilburn: keys, codes and exits

Offices, stores and warehouses, and the details worth giving on the call.

Staff turnover

When someone leaves with a key, the cylinders it opened are rekeyed and new keys issued to the people who stay. Walk the building first and write down each door that key worked, storage rooms and the back door included. Rekeying keeps the hardware; a lock that is also worn is the moment to change it, and the commercial lock change guide covers that choice.

Master key plans

Keys arranged by level, from the owner's key down to one room, logged on a key chart, with blanks on a restricted keyway. The plan starts from a list of doors and of who needs to pass through each one, so bring that list to the call. Cylinders of one brand can be repinned into the plan; mixed brands may need some exchanged. See setting up a master key system.

Card and code entry

Readers for cards or fobs, or code keypads, on employee entrances. A departing employee's credential is cancelled without touching a lock, and systems that log keep a record of who came in. Say how many doors and how many people, and whether each door has power nearby.

Panic bars

Exit devices installed, or repaired when they jam or fail to catch, outside key trim included. A bar that will not latch can be the bar, the strike or a door that has dropped, and each is checked before a part is quoted. Mention what the door is made of, its width, and whether it is a single door or a pair.

Storefront doors

Narrow aluminum frames call for slim mortise locks with a hook bolt, turned by a threaded mortise cylinder. When the key turns and the bolt stays put, the fault can sit in the cylinder or in the lock body behind it, and the two are separate parts. A photo of the door edge and of the keyhole side helps the right ones ride along.

After-hours entry

Whoever runs the place gets back inside after closing, with the dispatcher explaining on the call how the tie to the business is confirmed. Give the business name, which door and the lock on it. If the key is lost and not just left inside, a rekey can follow on that trip. See commercial locksmith service.
30047 and Its Roads

Where in Lilburn the van goes, and how to point the technician to you

Lilburn has two ZIP codes: 30047 carries every street address, and 30048 is for post office boxes only. Give the dispatcher a 30047 street address, or the name of the business or the apartment community.

Lawrenceville Highway (US-29) runs through the middle of town and continues 11 miles northeast to Lawrenceville. Beaver Ruin Road (SR-378) leaves I-85 at exit 102 and ends at Lawrenceville Highway in Lilburn, so drivers coming from the Norcross side arrive that way. Rockbridge Road meets Lawrenceville Highway southwest of the town center. On any of these, name the nearest cross street. In Old Town, the lot at Lilburn City Park, on the corner of Main Street and Railroad Avenue, is an easy place to meet the van.

Lilburn is largely a city of detached houses, so a rekey here tends to cover several exterior doors: front, back, side and the one from the garage. Count them before you call, and mention any lock that is stiff or loose, since a tired cylinder can be exchanged while the others are repinned. At an apartment community with a gate, give the code or meet the technician at the entrance.

FAQ - Lilburn House Lockout and Broken Key Questions

Keys snapped in the front door, whether a lock gets drilled, when a cylinder is replaced, what proves you live there, a lost key ring, a key that turns while the door stays shut, finding you in Lilburn and which door gets opened.

Only if enough of the blade sticks out to grip it and pull it straight out. If it broke flush or deeper, leave it: pushing it in further, or working at it with another key, can turn a simple extraction into a new cylinder. Call instead, say whether the door is locked, and the technician draws the piece out with extraction tools and cuts a new key.
Drilling is the last resort, not the first step. Entry starts with methods that work the lock’s own parts and leave it working. Drilling comes in only when a lock cannot be opened that way, for example a lock already damaged, and because it destroys the cylinder, a new one is installed during that visit. You hear why before any drilling starts.
In many cases, no. If the fragment comes out and the plug turns and the latch works with the spare, the cylinder is fine and a new key is all you need. If the spare turns and the latch no longer moves, or the key has to be forced, something was damaged, and the cylinder gets repaired, rekeyed or replaced in that visit.
Something that shows you live at that address. The dispatcher tells you on the call which documents serve. If your wallet and papers are inside the house, say so at the start of the call so you know what to expect when the technician arrives.
Yes. The van carries lock hardware and key programming equipment together, so the house can be opened and rekeyed and a new car key cut and programmed in one trip. For the car, bring out its title or registration together with a photo ID showing the same name, and tell the dispatcher the year, make and model.
Both, handled in that order. With the door closed and the bolt not drawing back, the first job is getting it open, and the technician does that by working on the lock, not the door. With the door open, the lock comes apart to show whether a part behind the cylinder has failed, and you hear whether it can be repaired or should be replaced before anything is fitted. The Norcross page of this site covers that repair-or-replace decision in detail.
Give the nearest cross street, such as Beaver Ruin Road or Rockbridge Road, and the name of the business or lot beside you. In Old Town, the City Park lot at Main Street and Railroad Avenue works as a meeting point. For a car, add the make and color.
The one that suits non-destructive entry best, which is not always the front door. Tell the dispatcher what is on each door you can reach: a knob lock alone, a knob with a deadbolt above it, a keypad, or a lock on the door from the garage. The technician picks the lock to work on after seeing them, opens that one, and the others stay as they were, so the keys inside the house still fit all of them.
Yes. The new cylinder can be pinned to match a key you already use, or all the doors can be rekeyed to one new key in the same visit. Mention every door on the call, including the one from the garage, so enough cylinders are loaded.
