Geography of Florida Pricing

Why prices vary across Florida

Florida is a single state but its locksmith work is not uniform, and the job in front of the technician is what sets the ticket. Three factors drive most of the variation. First, the vehicle: OEM key programming on many European brands requires NASTF Vehicle Security Professional authorization and paid manufacturer software, and that cost passes through.

Second, hardware mix: South Florida coastal humidity destroys cheap cylinders faster than inland counties. Properties in Aventura, Sunny Isles, Bal Harbour, Bay Harbor Islands, Surfside, and the Miami Beach corridor see more cylinder replacement work than rekey work, which is a different line on the price list rather than a different rate for the same line. Third, labor: what a mobile technician costs is not the same in every corner of the state, and that sits inside the quote you are given on the call.

This guide carries no figure of ours. Our reference prices live on one page, /pricing/, and the final price depends on the complexity of the job and the components it needs. If you want the Miami-only deep dive, see How Much Does a Locksmith Cost in Miami?.

Cost by Service Type

The 6 services Florida locksmiths charge for, and what moves each price

Car or home lockout

Non-destructive entry with Lishi picks, wedges and long-reach tools, so no drilling and no broken cylinder. The vehicle or the door sets the work, and a call between 9 PM and 7 AM local time, and on Sundays and federal holidays, carries a published surcharge said on the same call.

Car key replacement

Three questions set it: does a working key still exist, what are the make, the model and the year, and is it day or night. Copying a working key is the light end. All keys lost on European luxury is the heavy end, because the OEM data is licensed through NASTF VSP.

Residential rekey

Priced per cylinder, not per house, so a four-cylinder home and a seven-cylinder home are not the same ticket. New cut keys included. We can master key the household so one key opens every door and the old key set stops working.

Commercial lock change

Priced per door. Grade 2 is the standard commercial cylinder; Grade 1 is the high-security grade and is published as its own line, not as an extra discovered on site. Volume pricing for property management and multi-site contracts.

Master key system

Scales with door count and keyway selection. Scheduled work, not an after-hours dispatch. A restricted keyway (Medeco, Mul-T-Lock, ASSA Abloy) is its own published line and adds a signed key control log.

Panic bar install

Priced per door. Von Duprin, Detex, Adams Rite. ADA and fire-code compliant configurations available, and scheduled rather than dispatched after hours.
Bait-and-Switch Defense

Spot a Florida locksmith scam in 60 seconds

Refuses phone quote

Real locksmiths quote the full price on the call. Scam operators say "we will see when we get there".

Unmarked vehicle

Real locksmiths display the business name, and the license number where they hold one, on the van. Unmarked = walk away.

Cash-only on-site

Real locksmiths take cards. Cash-only is the classic scam tactic because there is no record to dispute later.

No license or legal name

Ask for the business legal name and its license number. In Miami-Dade that is the county LK number. Refusal = scam.

There is no single average, and a locksmith who recites one before asking what you need is guessing. What sets the price is the service itself, the hardware involved, and for a car key the make, the model and the year of the vehicle. Work between 9 PM and 7 AM local time, and on Sundays and federal holidays, carries a separate surcharge, stated on the same call. The dispatcher gives you the total on the phone before our van leaves, and that is the total you pay on site. Every rate we publish is on 4keyslocksmith.com/pricing/, the one place our numbers live, and those are reference prices.
Three factors. (1) Vehicle mix: Miami-Dade has more European luxury (Mercedes, BMW, Range Rover, Porsche), which requires NASTF VSP authorized programming and carries OEM data licensing cost. (2) Hardware mix: coastal humidity destroys cheap cylinders faster, so coastal areas (Aventura, Sunny Isles, Surfside) see more cylinder replacement work than rekey work. (3) Labor cost varies across the state. None of that changes how you get your number: you tell the dispatcher the service and the location, the dispatcher quotes the total on the call, and the total does not move when the technician arrives.
Three questions set it. Does a working key still exist, because copying a key and pairing a new system from scratch are not the same job. What are the make, the model and the year, because a plain metal blade, a domestic transponder, a smart proximity fob, a European luxury key and an ultra-luxury key card are five different jobs with five different tools and five different data costs. And is it day or night, because programming carries its own night surcharge. Answer those three on the call and you get the exact total before anyone is dispatched. The reference tier for each one is on /pricing/.
The dispatcher gives you the total on the phone before a technician is sent, and it does not change on arrival. We use non-destructive entry tools (Lishi picks, wedges, long-reach tools) for the vast majority of jobs, so no drilling and no broken cylinders. Calls between 9 PM and 7 AM local time, and on Sundays and federal holidays, carry a published surcharge, said on the same call rather than added to the invoice later. Coastal South Florida humidity can corrode cylinders, so an opening occasionally needs a rekey afterwards. That is its own published line and we quote it before we touch it.
Residential rekey is priced per cylinder, not per house, so your total follows the number of exterior cylinders you actually have. Most Florida single-family homes have a front door, a back door, a garage entry, and in many cases a side gate and a mailbox. New cut keys are included. We can also master key the household so one key works every door while the old key set stops working. The per-cylinder line and the full-house line are both published on /pricing/.
Office lockouts, commercial rekeys and lock changes are priced per door or per cylinder, so the total follows the door count rather than a flat call-out. Grade 2 is the standard commercial cylinder; Grade 1 is the high-security grade and is published as its own line rather than appearing as a surprise on the invoice. Master key systems, restricted keyways and electronic access control scale with door count and keyway selection, and they are scheduled work rather than an after-hours dispatch. Volume pricing is available for property management and multi-site contracts. Every one of those lines is published on /pricing/.
Bait-and-switch ads say 'starting at $19 service call' or '$15 locksmith near me'. Once on-site the tech 'discovers' the job is more complex and demands $300-$600 cash, in many cases after drilling the cylinder. Miami-Dade is one of the most-targeted U.S. markets for this scam. Defense: (1) ask the full price on the phone before they leave. (2) confirm it in writing if you have time. (3) ask for the business legal name and license number (Florida has no state locksmith license; in Miami-Dade it is the county LK number). (4) ask for NASTF VSP authorization for car key work, verifiable at vettedcarkeypros.com.
A county license. Florida has no state locksmith license. Florida operations run as Qorinca LLC, which was issued Miami-Dade County locksmith license LK-094576. ALOA-trained technicians, NASTF VSP authorized automotive programming. The dispatcher gives you the license number on the call.
Most do, including us, and ours is a published flat surcharge rather than a mystery multiplier. It is not one surcharge for everything either: a lockout, a broken-key extraction, key programming, ignition work and a residential rekey each carry their own, and every one of them is printed beside the day rate on our pricing page. We say the number on the phone before dispatch. Some scam operators charge 200-400% night premiums or refuse to quote at all until they are on-site.
We accept all major payment types: Visa, Mastercard, Amex, Discover, contactless (Apple Pay, Google Pay), and cash. Receipt emailed on the spot. Scam locksmiths tend to demand cash-only on-site, which is the classic warning sign because there is no card record to dispute the charge later.
